Meet Philoxenia Movement Founder & Principal:
XENIA MANSOUR
After more than 7 years of dancing in New York City, the onset of COVID-19 led to an unexpected return to my hometown of Chicago, IL. Struggling to make my next move in a time of great uncertainty and unpredictability where live performances were no longer feasible, I found myself teaching private dance lessons in my parents’ garage.
What I didn't anticipate was that a temporary gig would ignite the next chapter of my career.
Within two months, I had acquired seven new clients, each diverse in interests, movement training, age, and goals.
Yet, they all shared a common thread – a feeling of being estranged from their bodies and a desire to rediscover themselves through dance and movement.
As they reconnected with their bodies, each student also discovered a sense of pause, connection, and meaning in the studio.
This experience brought me immense pride and joy. Witnessing their increased confidence and empowerment not only within the studio but also in their daily lives fueled my desire to integrate these principals in all aspects of my artistic work.
I expanded my reach, working with dancers, artists, musicians, and athletes, guiding them on a journey back to their bodies using the knowledge gained from my dance and athletic career.
In October 2023, Philoxenia Movement LLC became the umbrella for my private teaching business, dancing/performing career, and aspirations in choreography and movement direction.
The overarching goal of my services crystallized:
I aim to infuse JOY back into your passion.
Whether it's dance, a sport, or navigating daily challenges, my mission is for you to rediscover the joy and presence in activities that once brought you happiness.
I avoid 'one-size-fits-all' methodologies, choosing instead to foster dialogue and collaboration as a means to reignite passion and curiosity for each individual mover and project. It's common to feel frustration and encounter burnout despite wholehearted efforts when navigating the dynamics of a class, practice, or work environment. My goal is to cultivate an atmosphere where you can truly feel seen, appreciated, acknowledged, and motivated.
